Protecting Yourself During Your Job Search

Red FlagOnline scams are a fact of life in this day and age. Watch out for jobs that sound too good to be true or ask you to purchase items like gift cards. Jobs that ask you to buy items or accept money transfers are always a scam. But there are also ways a legitimate employer can also cheat their employees.

Here are some red flags to watch out for when applying to a job or while at work.

  • Asks for money but isn't civil service
  • Asks invasive or inappropriate questions in an interview
  • Makes threats against you due to your immigration status
  • Harasses you for your gender identity, religious beliefs, or other protected categories
  • Withholds pay or tips without an explanation
  • Retaliates against you for forming or joining a union
