If you or someone you know are in immediate need of housing, the Department of Homeless Services (DHS) processes cases at their 24-hour shelter intake centers and offers temporary assistance at several drop-in centers throughout the five boroughs. Both DHS shelter intake centers and drop-in centers are open 24 hours a day, seven days a week, including holidays.
For assistance with other immediate essential needs, see the hotlines below provided by government and community organizations.
For DHS adult means age 18 or older; family means legally married couples, single parents with children, pregnant women, and unmarried couples, with or without children, who have cohabited a substantial period of time and demonstrate a need to be sheltered together.
