Consumer Review Sites are a great place to find information about your target customer for food service businesses, retailers, and service based businesses. If you look through the reviews and comments of rival businesses you can learn a lot about your potential customers. Are they primarily males or females? What age groups are most interested in my business type? Are there certain lifestyle characteristics that draw people to the businesses that I identify as my competitors, such as the decor or the music that they play? These sites can be used to spot patterns in the compliments and complaints that your competitors receive, and this can be used to either incorporate their ideas into your business model or avoid their shortcomings. You can also find information about the commonly used search terms that people used to find a rival business, and these could be used in your web copy or SEO/SEM to enhance your web visibility.
